A. Martinez
A.Martinez is an interdisciplinary visual artist, poet, mother, and community and arts organizer living in Chicago. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Writing Program. Her work explores identity, memory, spirituality, and the body through painting, bookmaking, printmaking, words, and installation. Alyssa’s social practice involves participatory discussion and arts based community gatherings based on rituals of remembering. She is an active member of the Artist Mother community in Chicago, and organizer of the WILD YAMS Black Mother Art Artist Residency. Alyssa will release a handbound artist chapbook of poetry and prints entitled TURN in 2024. In addition to her creative practice, A.Martinez is an arts administrator for music performance organizations.
