Each year, we invite people from all across Chicago to join us in supporting a $25,000 3Arts Award that will be given to a local artist who is making important contributions to our city. We name this award in honor of the community to show how much we all care about our city’s artists.

Nearly 100 Chicagoans gave to this city-wide effort in 2016. This year, we’re hoping that even more people pitch in—at any amount, $1 dollar and up—and show their support for the local artists who make Chicago thrive.

It's a great year to be part of this effort as we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of 3Arts and unveiling our Make a Wave program, an unprecedented peer-to-peer initiative in which we invite all 86 of our past awardees to identify another 86 artists who will each receive a surprise grant of $1,000.

The recipient of the 2017 3Arts Community Award will be announced on November 6 at our 10th Anniversary 3Arts Awards celebration held at the Mid-America Club in downtown Chicago.

“Last year, I was standing at the podium with all these names scrolling behind me. What an amazing feeling it was to know that all these Chicagoans support art in our city.”
~ William Estrada, 2016 3Arts Community Awardee

“The thing I love about what 3Arts is doing is that art is the glue that ties all of our communities together. The Community Award gives Chicagoans the opportunity to embrace one of these artists as their own.”
~ Erryn Cobb, 3Arts Board of Directors

Please join us. Every dollar you contribute will go directly to one of ten 3Arts awardees selected by a national jury panel later this summer.

About This Project

When you donate to this campaign, you become a champion of Chicago’s women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities who work in the performing, teaching, and visual arts. Each year, ten Chicago artists who reflect that mission receive 3Arts Awards of $25,000, with no strings attached, as the result of a nomination and national jury process. Artists may use the awards to defray expenses, pay off debt, purchase equipment, and focus on their creative process—or in any way they see fit.

Every time we give a Chicago artist one of our awards, we are offering up far more than cash. We are sending loud applause for a job well done, gratitude for work that matters to everyone it touches, and a boost of recognition at an important career juncture. There is nothing like the feeling of investing directly in the artists who keep the creative engines revving in our city.

With the 3Arts Community Award campaign, you can be part of this incredible support for Chicago artists. As is true of all campaigns we support on our 3AP platform, 3Arts will match up to 1/3 of the funding goal, helping to leverage your contribution.

"With this 3Arts Award, I'm reminded that we have the power to reimagine our world, to celebrate our lives and tell our stories, that together we build community right where we stand. Opportunities like this are rare, and I am so grateful for the chance to grow my practice and continue giving back to people through my art."
~ William Estrada, 2016 3Arts Community Awardee
