Christopher Damman (he/him) is a composer/bassist who has gigged persistently in the Chicago scene since the late, great saxophonist Fred Anderson gave him a monthly gig at the Velvet Lounge in 2009. He was a notable regular substitute for Brian Sandstrom in the long-lived free improv collective Extraordinary Popular Delusions and has performed nationally. He considers himself indebted to the generosity and knowledge of those he collaborates, studies, and performs with, including Jim Baker, Steve Hunt, Avreeayl Ra, Vincent Davis, Brian Sandstrom, Edward Wilkerson Jr, Mike Reed, Jon Irabagon, Mabel Kwan, James Davis, and Brian Gephart.
He is currently working on a new quintet project with an expected release in 2026. Other recent works include his 2025 self-titled sextet recording on Out of Your Head Records and sketches, the latest album from his group Restroy. In addition to performing, Christopher is proud to be a teaching artist with The People’s Music School of Chicago, the city’s largest tuition free music school.
