Devin Cain
Devin Cain is a Chicago-based filmmaker and teaching artist. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Cinema Art + Science from Columbia College Chicago and has foundational training in theatre. As a teaching artist with a decade of experience dedicated to igniting the creative spark in learners of all ages, from pre-K to high school seniors. At the heart of Devin's practice is the conviction that art, particularly filmmaking through the compelling lens of horror, provides a unique conduit for self-discovery and meaningful engagement with the world.
Across a diverse portfolio of partnerships with institutions such as Columbia College Chicago's Community Schools, Urban Gateways, Play In A Book, Chicago Park District's T.R.A.C.E., and Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange, Devin has cultivated environments where imaginative exploration thrives. His commitment is currently exemplified in the role as a teaching artist for Chicago Public Schools' RE:ALIZE dual-enrollment program, where young artists are mentored in various media disciplines: filmmaking, photography, game development, and graphic novel creation.
Devin's teaching emphasizes visionary storytelling, fostering the ability in students to transform their inner landscapes into compelling narratives that resonate with broader meaning. The success of this approach is evident in students' celebrated participation in events like the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival and various art exhibitions. Devin stands as a committed guide for the next generation, empowering them to tell their authentic stories and shape how we perceive and interact with the world.
