Nick Pupillo (he/him) is an award-winning national and international choreographer and teacher recognized for the power and versatility in his work. A graduate of Indiana University and former dancer with Giordano Dance Chicago, Pupillo’s focus quickly became concentrated on teaching and creating. In 2006, he developed the pre-professional Visceral Studio Company, followed in 2007 by Visceral Dance Center, providing Chicago with a new venue for artistic and technical growth. The Center is now a Chicago dance landmark and home to Visceral Dance Chicago.
Pupillo founded Visceral Dance Chicago in 2013, presenting his vision to explore the infinite possibilities of contemporary movement. Named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch,” the company is acclaimed for technique, passion, and athleticism, and features repertoire from emerging voices and world-renowned choreographers. Pupillo has created over twenty signature works and four collaborations with The Chicago Philharmonic.
Pupillo recently received the 2024 Meier Achievement Award and is honored to be acknowledged alongside the other driven and talented artists in the 2025 3Arts Make a Wave awardees.
