Sound Designer, DJ, and Arts Administrator

Willow James (he/him) is a Chicago-based arts leader, DJ, and multidisciplinary artist working in photography, sound design, and music composition. He uses art as a platform for community healing and creates work that uplifts Black identity–building spaces where art and purpose meet. He currently serves as Civic Engagement Director at Definition Theatre (where he is also an ensemble member) and is a teaching artist with Court Theatre, and Adjunct Faculty at DePaul University. 

An award-winning sound designer, his credits include Anna in the Tropics (American Players Theatre), You Will Get Sick (Steppenwolf Theatre), Fat Ham (DefinitionTheatre /Goodman Theatre), Sanctuary City (Next Act Theatre), A Raisin in the Sun (Court Theatre), The Band's Visit (TheatreSquared/Writers Theatre), Hymn (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre), and more. He is also the founder of Clean Pour Club, a nomadic style pop-up bar featuring drinks inspired by people, places + stories. | @worksbywillow
