Hamlet by Make-Believe Association

Now available, Hamlet by Make-Believe Association is a “revelatory new take on Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy” dropping you inside fractured mind of the prince. The podcast stars Daniel Kyri as Hamlet and the cover art was created by Andrea Coleman.

 

The Color Purple at Goodman Theatre

Now through July 27, 2025, Lili-Anne Brown will bring her revival of The Color Purple to the Goodman Theatre. Described as “perfection on every level” by the Chicago Sun-Times, Lili-Anne’s The Color Purple is a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize- and National Book Award-winning novel. Attendees are asked to “come ready to shout in church, stomp at the juke joint, laugh and cry…” 

 

From the Great Lakes to the Great Plains: The Visible Currents of Climate Change at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts

On view now through September 14, 2025, From the Great Lakes to the Great Plains: The Visible Currents of Climate Change is a group exhibition at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska, “examining the interrelationship between past, present, and future landscapes of the Great Lakes and Great Plains regions. Featuring work by Andrea Carlson and Rozalinda Borcilă, the exhibition highlights how water remains at the core of all climate change conversations. 

 

The Fly Honey Show at Thalia Hall 

On July 10-11, 18-19 and 24-25, Erin Kilmurray, Po’chop, Bella BAHHS, Melissa Duprey, Darling Squire, and more perform with the Fly Honeys in The Fly Honey Show at Thalia Hall. The Fly Honeys create a “high-energy, campy, sticky, glittering spectacle of dance, comedy, and music experienced in the round so you’ll be immersed in Honey from every direction.”

 

Improvised Music Series: Mad Myth Science, Dammann/Hunsinger/Kwan/Stein at Elastic Arts

On July 10 and 11, Mabel Kwan performs in Improvised Music Series: Mad Myth Science, Dammann/Hunsinger/Kwan/Stein at Elastic Arts. The performance will “present a rich cross-section of Chicago creativity bringing experience in jazz and creative music, contemporary composition, electronics, and dance and theatrical performing arts together into a pageantry of sound and spontaneous rituals.” 

 

Ceremonial Rites at First Presbyterian Church

Opening on July 12 (and on view through August 17, 2025), Sulyiman Stokes is a featured artist in Ceremonial Rites, a group exhibition at First Presbyterian Church. The exhibition features work by Chicago based photographers Max Li, Natasha Moustache, Seed Lynn, Katon Blackburn, Adebola Oshipitan, Tafari Melisizwe, and Sulyiman Stokes. 

 

Solo Show & Storytelling by Chicago Dramatists

On Tuesday Nights from July 15 through September 2, 2025, Arlene Malinowski teaches Solo Show & Storytelling, a workshop “designed for solo artists & storytellers, actors, playwrights and lovers of words of all levels— who want to work on the development of a one-person show or story for the stage.” Participants will be able to develop material, complete class exercises, and work individually to get personalized coaching. Classes will be held via Zoom and are $375.00 for seven Tuesday sessions and $1,050.00 for a private class.

Lynne Jordan & The Shivers: Celebrating Lynne and “the Tony” Birthday Party at Rosa’s Lounge

On July 18, Lynne Jordan performs in Lynne Jordan & The Shivers: Celebrating Lynne and “the Tony” Birthday Party at Rosa’s Lounge. As a birthday celebration, Lynne fronts The Shivers, sharing her powerhouse vocals, dynamic presence, and genre-spanning voice with audiences. 

 

Guardians of the Earth and Sky at Garden of the Phoenix 

On July 19, Guardians of the Earth and Sky created by Irene Hsiao and featuring Darling Squire, is an exploration of “seasons, elements, colors, and constellations through storytelling, music, and dance…” The event is a multicultural performance created in collaboration with participants of all ages, who will be invited to speak, sing, dance, and create artwork. Guardians of the Earth and Sky is a  free performance series, and art supplies will be provided to create headpieces.

 

Live the Spirit Residency: Young Masters at Palmer Square

On July 20, Dee Alexander performs in Live the Spirit Residency: Young Masters at Palmer Square. The Young Masters presents an accomplished group of young talented high school and college-aged jazz musicians who have developed their skills under the mentorship Ernest Dawkins. For this performance, Dee Alexander will be the special guest offering original music from compositions by The Young Masters.
