UPDATE: Thanks to your donations, we are thrilled to announce that William Estrada is the 2016 3Arts Community Awardee.

It’s time for the 2016 3Arts Community Award, when we invite people from every corner of Chicago to join together to support a $25,000 3Arts Award in honor of our community.

Every time we give a Chicago artist one of our awards, we are offering up far more than cash. We are sending loud applause for a job well done, gratitude for work that matters to everyone it touches, and a boost of recognition at an important career juncture. There is nothing like the feeling of investing directly in the artists who keep the creative engines revving in our city.

Nearly 100 Chicagoans gave to this city-wide effort in 2015. This year, we’re hoping that even more people will pitch in—at $1.00 and up—and show their support for the local artists whose work makes Chicago a special place to live and visit.

Please join us. Every dollar you contribute will go directly to one of ten 3Arts awardees selected by a national jury panel later this summer.

"When I found out that I was the 2015 3Arts Community Award recipient, I took it as a sign that the things that I do, the art that I create, the sacrifices that I make—that it matters. Sometimes that's what you need. You need somebody to believe in you, and to have so many people across Chicago believe in you, from all different backgrounds, all different communities, is amazing."
– Fawzia Mirza, 2015 3Arts Community Award Recipient

About This Project

When you donate to this campaign (in any amount), you become a champion of Chicago’s women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities who work in the performing, teaching, and visual arts.

Each year, ten Chicago artists who reflect our focus on equity receive 3Arts Awards of $25,000, with no strings attached. Artists may use the awards to defray expenses, pay off debt, purchase equipment, and focus on their creative process—or in any way they see fit.

With the 3Arts Community Award campaign, you can be part of this incredible support for Chicago artists. 3Arts will join you in this effort by matching up to 1/3 of the funding goal.

The recipient of the 2016 Community Award, along with the nine other 2016 award recipients, will be announced on October 3 at the annual 3Arts Awards celebration at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

Join us, give what you can, and be part of making great art here in Chicago!

  • Update 1: Artists say it best
    Posted on April 04, 2016

Thank you so much to everyone who has given to the 2016 3Arts Community Award campaign so far! We are 20% funded and getting a great response from people all across Chicago. Our past awardees are also helping to spread the word, including this from visual artist Cheryl Pope:

"3Arts is a most genuine and thoughtful arts organization that I whole heartedly believe in! THANK YOU for helping creatives in CHICAGO become MORE!" (Cheryl Pope, 2015 Awardee in Visual Arts)

With your donations to this campaign, we're showing artists in Chicago how much this city values and supports them.

    Thank you!

Update 2: Truly, artists say it best
    Posted on April 28, 2016

We've had a great showing of support for this year's Community Award campaign so far! Thanks to all who have supported, we're 76% of the way there.

We thought we'd share another sentiment from a past 3Arts awardee, who is cheering this effort and helping to spread the word:

"Chicago People, Chicago Artists, give what you can, large or small, this is a beautiful award because it comes from US. Make it happen." --- Cauleen Smith, 2013 3Arts Awardee in Visual Arts

Thank you, and please continue to share word of this campaign!
