Community Access Tickets to MUJERES
A shifting terrain of myth, memory, and reflection, MUJERES, PARA.MAR Dance Theatre’s first-ever full-length ballet, invites audiences to encounter the many selves of Chilean poet and Nobel Laureate Gabriela Mistral through her Locas Mujeres poems.
Choreographed by PARA.MAR founder and director Stephanie Martinez, this most ambitious work unfolds as a ritual of endurance, fragmentation, and return.
Contributions to the Community Access Tickets to MUJERES campaign will support 200 subsidized tickets, advancing PARA.MAR’s core commitment to access, artistic excellence, diverse representation, and community.
About This Project
MUJERES is an evening-length contemporary ballet presented by PARA.MAR Dance Theatre (P/M), and the company’s first-ever full-length work. A shifting terrain of myth, memory, and reflection, MUJERES invites us to meet the many versions of Chilean poet and Nobel Laureate Gabriela Mistral’s Locas Mujeres.
With choreography by PARA.MAR founder and director Stephanie Martinez, this newest and most ambitious creation becomes a ritual of endurance, fragmentation, and return – invoking the many selves a woman carries, abandons, and reclaims across time. Through evocative movement and an expansive visual landscape, we hope for MUJERES to embody the search for identity, resilience, desire, and belonging – an act of remembrance and renewal meant to resonate beyond this moment and endure across generations.
MUJERES has been developed over several years through layered phases of research, residency, and work-in-process showings, each deepening the choreography, visual language, and dramaturgical spine of the work. We are now entering a critical public-facing milestone: the first public preview performance. This campaign directly supports that moment by funding 200 Community Access tickets, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to experiencing the work as it comes into being. Contributions help offset artist fees, venue, and production costs tied to the preview, while allowing PARA.MAR to uphold its Pay-What-You-Can and subsidized ticketing commitments – welcoming a broad and representative community into the room at a pivotal moment in the work’s evolution.
Donors can experience MUJERES at its first public preview on April 17 at the Logan Center for the Arts, an essential artistic and community milestone. The following evening, April 18, PARA.MAR will present the official premiere and benefit performance, which supports the broader production and future life of the work. Together, these two performances reflect PARA.MAR’s dual commitment: centering access and inclusion, while also strengthening the long-term growth and future of the company as it brings ambitious new work fully to life.
By supporting Community Access Tickets to MUJERES, donors are not only helping bring new audiences into this performance – you are investing in PARA.MAR’s broader commitment to access, artistic excellence, diverse representation, and community, and in a more inclusive ecosystem for dance and storytelling in Chicago and beyond.
